How rebates work on Rebates Direct

Utilities across the country pay customers to buy efficient equipment. Most people never collect — the programs are scattered, the paperwork is tedious, and eligibility depends on exactly where you live. We built that whole layer into the store.

⚡ Instant rebates (midstream)

Many utilities fund midstream programs: they pay the distributor — us — so the discount comes off your price at the point of sale. When you enter your ZIP code, we identify your electric utility, check every active midstream program, match products against the program's qualification rules (like DLC or ENERGY STAR listing), and show you the discounted price. You pay the lower price. No forms, ever.

↻ Application rebates (downstream)

Other programs pay you after purchase — usually by check or bill credit — once the utility verifies the equipment was installed at an eligible address. For these, you pay the standard price today and we shepherd the application: we prepare the paperwork from your order details, collect anything the utility requires (like installation photos or a W-9), submit it, and track it until the money lands. You can follow every step from your order page.

Why prices change with your address

Rebate funding comes from utility ratepayer programs, so eligibility is determined by which utility serves your shipping address — not where you're browsing from. That's why we confirm rebates against your shipping ZIP at checkout, and why the same fixture can cost less in Chicago than in Atlanta.
